TECH & SCI

INNOVATION:
* A team of MBA students appear to be in line to greatly help India's(among others) food shortage problems, by using solar powered food storage.  India loses 30-40% of food in transport, which comes out to about 54-72 billion.  Thanks to University of Cincinnati for info about their students' big project.  The full details, courtesy of Phys.org, can be found here: UC Team Pursues Hot Idea...

DISCOVERIES:
* What if there is no gravity?  This is the theory of Erik Verlinde, professor of Theoretical Physics.  His idea is there is a force which we cannot see, such as dark matter or dark energy, which enables us to "see" gravity.  His theory will be tested by the scientific community in the coming years.  The full article, courtesy DailyGalaxy can be found here: Is Gravity an Illusion?

HEALTH:

* Mind controlled artificial limbs, as seen in the above video, are coming next year.  This may sound like a line out of science fiction, but it is very real, and could help 1,000s of amputees around the world.  The key here is Titanium, which acts as an interface between the brain and the nerves and muscles.  Full details, thanks to Liat Clark at Wired.co.uk, can be found here: Mind-Controlled Robotic Arm

FUTURISM:
* The story of mind controlled limbs leads us to another topic, one which is no stranger to controversy.  Can humans achieve immortality with the help of technology?  You would be surprised at the number of scientists who believe this idea.  They believe, as detailed in the following article, that it would be a gradual thing, starting with a brain implant into an artificial body, and ending with a digital mind transfer into a holographic body.  But, they forget society allows for only one revolutionary breakthrough at a time recently.  That is, unless you think things are advancing exponentially.  Thanks to Alyssa Danigelis at News.Discovery.com, for the in depth article, which can be found here: Human Immortality?
